How to Be a Better Knitter

Like many Makers who enjoy knitting, I am on a learning journey to improve my knitting skills. In order to achieve this I decided to put more focus on growing and strengthening my skills, with the goal of having more confidence when learning new techniques, while not being influenced personal expectations. What really opened my eyes to knitting with more confidence and being less stressed from my personal expectations were the podcasts from Irina of Fiber Chats, Norman of Nimbleneedlez and Andrea Mowry of “I Will Knit if I want to. Fiber Chats is a wonderful Youtube channel where you can go down the rabbit hole of intellectual interviews on many topics pertaining to the learning process of a knitter,...

Allow Me to Introduce Myself

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to those of you who are just discovering Little Bishes Stitches Hand Dyed Yarn!   My name is Cat. I am an American Indie Yarn Dyer, a mother of two, married and living in Hagen Germany.   We moved here from New York in 2011. It was quite an adjustment, but nevertheless I enjoy living here, not to mention having close access to the other European countries. I very much enjoy culture, art and cusine. Sometimes my husband makes fun of me because I am always on a mission to find the next good restaurant or bakery. From Italian to French I love experiencing other cultures and learning more about...

Yarn Clubs...Why I offer them in the shop and what they mean to me...

Yarn clubs can be a celebration of a holiday, a special occasion that is dear to one's heart or a theme that brings one joy! The theme of a yarn club doesn't always speak to everyone, but the whole mission of a yarn club, and it is one of the reasons why I love to create them, is that it gives the maker the opportunity to experience the theme that is being celebrated through the components of the club, in turn making their fiber project memorable. Not only can a yarn club generate a memorable experience, but it can even initiate inspiration for a new cast on or generate an idea for an add in to a project that has...

It's Yarn Advent Calendar Time Again in the Shop!

The Yarn Advent Calendar season is in full swing in the shop! This will be our 4th year offering Advent Calendars and I couldn't be more excited! Yarn advent calendars typically consist of twenty four 20g mini skeins as well as one 100g skein of yarn. All of the skeins are individually dyed and are one of a kind colorways dyed according to the theme of the calendar.   This year's Little Bishes Stitches yarn advent calendar theme is inspired by #EVENINGART, a running curation of artworks from artists local and international via @lilbishesstitches_yarn Instagram stories. Each evening a piece of art work is posted that not only evokes emotion in me but also inspires me creatively. For this year's...

Doing My Part as a Maker - Listen, Reflect, Connect

Handwork is powerful. It is a form of communication and expression. It is a  looking glass and communicator of how the the maker perceives their environment, community and the world. Handwork also creates a dialogue. Through dialogue, a powerful force can be conjured, where awareness is raised, people come together and ultimately change can be made. I like to think of this as LRC - Listen, Reflect and Connect. When the events in the Ukraine started to unfold, it was important to me to help initiate just that in my maker community and even more important, that the Ukraine heard my voice. The first thing that came to mind, was that the people who were fleeing or would soon be...
